Why Krakow (tips about where to have a proper healthy breakfast)
Since I’ve moved here the most common question I’ve been asked is :”why did you move to Krakow from Switzerland?” and any time I reply :”because of my wife” people are either smiling or commenting that Polish women are rather beautiful and that I should have been careful. Well, too late now but there is no day that I am regretting the choice I’ve made.
I do have to be honest, before meeting my wife I didn’t know much about Poland or Krakow. I only did know Krakow a bit because of the Pope Joan Paul II but not much else. Well, the time I visited the city it was an eye opener for me in terms of its beauty, its cleanness and the fact you do feel it’s a safe city, which is not to underestimate nowadays.
I’ve seen so many young people walking late at night on their own or be sitting on a bench and nobody bothering them. Krakow gave me a good vibe since the beginning, part of it is probably because it’s a university city loaded with students, meaning there is always something going on.
Other reason I felt in love with Krakow beside the history and its medieval buildings are the cafeterias.
Beautifully decorated with a mix of retro and modern style, they do offer a marvelous breakfast, from the classic croissant or cake to the omelets or wraps, the menu offers whatever you could possibly ask for, not to count the cappuccino!!!
As an Italian i am always skeptical to take espresso or cappuccino once abroad, but here in Krakow I do think is almost better than in Italy, not only for the quality but also for the quantity!!! Here you have the choice between a normal or large cappuccino, and let me tell you, the large is huge :). I’ve got addicted to it so the first time I’ve got back in Italy I’ve felt the cappuccino there was too small and craving to go back to Krakow to have a proper one 🙂
Which one are my favorite cafeterias? Here are my top 3, all of them with lots of vegetarian or vegan choices in the menu.
My 3 best cafeterias in Krakow so far
Number 1 is the Wesola Café (ul. Rakowicka 17). Cool place with lots of choices for a healthy breakfast; my favorite options so far are the sweet omelette, simply delicious or the chocolate & fruits creamy millet groats, just love it!!!!! Ps: weekend better you go early because it’s always packed.
Number 2 is the Mo-Ja Café (ul. Starowiślna 14), there you can find a nice chilled atmosphere and great service beside the quality of the food. My favorite dish there, is the vegetarian wrap, so good.
Number 3 is the Gossip Café (ul. Zwierzyniecka 6), I think the smoothies there are simply unbeatable and not to talk about the omelette!!! My favorite? Mushroom omelette with goat cheese and the mango smoothie!!!
Why am I keep talking about breakfast? Simply because I am craving of breakfast, it’s the fuel to start my day. I cannot leave home without a proper breakfast, doesn’t matter the time.
Talking about breakfast, this is what I eat every morning.
My daily fully vegetarian breakfast
I make a smoothie, a fresh juice, a cup of tea and 2 slices of toast with peanut butter and homemade jam made by my wife. Ps: guess whom the mug in the picture belongs to? 🙂
In the next article I will write more about Krakow and in the specific about what to see and visit and where to eat, especially if you are vegetarian or vegan :).
